Milwaukee Mystery: The Great Germania Statue Heist

West Wells - Germania Building, Triangle Building

At one point in the its long and noble history, a statue sat atop the entrance of the Germania building. The statue, which took the shape of a goddess-like woman, celebrated Milwaukee’s dominant ethnic heritage. However, when America entered into the fray of World War I  and anti-German resentment reached a fever pitch, that statue was torn down.

What became of the statue and where as it gone to? Brian Jacobson provides readers an insight into this mystery with his article “The Mystery of the Germania Statue” on Urban Milwaukee. Check it out!
