At one point in the its long and noble history, a statue sat atop the entrance of the Germania building. The statue, which took the shape of a goddess-like woman, celebrated Milwaukee’s dominant ethnic heritage. However, when America entered into the fray of World War I and anti-German resentment reached a fever pitch, that statue was torn down.
