A new exhibit is coming to the Milwaukee County Historical Society! Our 2013 season kicks off with a truly unique attraction: “Forum: A Veteran Print Project.” On Friday, March 22nd, MCHS will be holding a special event to celebrate the exhibit’s grand opening with a special lecture by the project’s founder, Yvette Pino.
The Veteran Print Project was founded in 2009 after Pino’s experience during a two-week long printmaking workshop. As a recent Iraq War veteran, Pino left the workshop with a desire to connect veterans and artists together in an almost symbiotic relationship. The project’s stated mission is to “express the historical experiences of a new generation of veterans through the traditional methods of fine art print, opening an ongoing dialogue between these two groups.” Previous Veteran Print Project exhibits have been displayed at the Wisconsin Veterans Museum and Colorado State University. For more information on the project, please visit www.veteranprintproject.com.
Join us in celebrating the opening of this exhibit, which will feature the stories of Milwaukee County’s Latino veterans and the artwork of local artists and printmakers. The event kicks off at 5:00, with Yvette Pino speaking at 5:30. The event ends at 8:00 pm, so don’t be late! Free parking will be available across the street, at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel parking lot. Attendance is free and refreshments and snacks will be provided!
